Christian Bale has been out of the Batcave for eight years and he may finally be ready for another superhero franchsie. The star of The Dark Knight Trilogy is now in talks to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Collider was the first to report the news and the trades followed soon after. There is no word yet on what role Bale will play, but there are a lot of heroes in the film already, so an antagonist isn’t out of the question.

Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), The Mighty Thor/Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), and Korg (Taika Waititi) will need someone to go up against and a villain played by Bale would make for a formidable foe.

Of course, casting is only just getting underway on this film, so there is plenty of time for someone else to sign on as the big bad. Perhaps Bale is a fellow hero in the form of Balder the Brave or fan favorite Beta Ray Bill.

Regardless of the role, this is incredible news. Bale is one of the greatest actors working today and is sure to elevate whichever character he plays. Bale is an Oscar® winner (Best Supporting Actor – The Fighter) who recently starred in Ford v Ferrari opposite Matt Damon, who had a cameo as “Loki” in Thor: Ragnarok.

That Bale is reportedly interested in this specific project certainly speaks highly of director Taika Waititi. There may not be a single actor in Hollywood who doesn’t want to work with Waititi. It should also be noted that Bale has underrated comedic chops and Waititi could make proper use of them in Love and Thunder.
