Avengers: Endgame is the biggest movie of all time at the global box office. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said it was going to happen at last night’s Hall H presentation at Comic-Con, but now it’s official. Endgame was now earned $2.7902B, passing previous record-holder Avatar ($2.7897B).
Avengers: Endgame had nothing left to prove, even before eclipsing this record. Marvel Studios stuck the landing in a supremely satisfying way, with critics and moviegoers loving the film. Endgame had already collected several box office records, including its mind-boggling opening weekend.
Setting this new worldwide mark, however, is the perfect feather in Kevin Feige’s famous crew cap. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the biggest franchise ever put on the big screen and now it can claim the biggest individual film.
Marvel Studios has reached the top of the mountain the right way, by telling incredible stories that connect with audiences around the world. Character and story have always outranked box office records on Feige and company’s priority list and it shows. It is pretty sweet, however, when box office records become the natural byproduct of a studio continuing to unite and entertain its audience.
As nice as this is, don’t expect Marvel Studios to slow down. Feige just unveiled an amazing Phase Four slate to take us through 2021.
