Marvel Studios has found its director for Shang-Chi. Deadline reports that Destin Daniel Cretton will direct the film. As previously reported, David Callaham is writing the project.
Cretton is an inspired choice by Marvel Studios. He directed Short Term 12, one of the best films of 2013. That picture proved to be a major turning point in the careers of Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Rami Malek, and LaKeith Stanfield, among others.
Cretton most recently reunited with Larson on Just Mercy. The upcoming feature also stars MCU alumn Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther).
This is terrific news for Shang-Chi! That a director has been hired means this film is moving right along. Shang-Chi may very well be Marvel Studios’ November 2021 release. If not, the movie should be in theaters no later than 2022.
