Marvel Studios is bringing back more of the Doctor Strange creative team for the sequel. That Hashtag Show reports that C. Robert Cargill will pen the script. This news has not been confirmed, but it’s likely to be true.
Cargill has been a frequent writing partner of Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson, who’s reportedly returning to helm the sequel. Derrickson and Cargill are credited for writing the first film, alongside Jon Spaihts.
The return of Derrickson and Cargill could provide a clue as to which antagonist Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch will face in the next film. Both Derrickson and Cargill have publicly expressed interest in pitting Strange against Nightmare.
Nightmare was the first villain Stephen Strange ever encountered, back when both characters were introduced in Strange Tales #110. Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) will probably factor into the story, as he tries to fix the world’s “too many sorcerors” problem, but Marvel may be playing a long game with him, as Stan Lee and Steve Ditko did in the source material.
