The most powerful hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on pace for one of Marvel Studios’ biggest franchise debuts. Captain Marvel could open anywhere between $140M and $180M, according to long-range tracking from Box Office Pro.

An opening in that range would be the second-best solo franchise debut in Marvel Studios history. Black Panther ($202M) currently holds that record for the studio. Of course, Captain Marvel would still set a new record for a franchise debut for a character that did not appear in a previous MCU film (Black Panther first appeared in Captain America: Civil War).

Box Office Pro is currently predicting an opening right in the middle of the long-range tracking at $160M. This is not industry tracking, however, as films do not hit those tracking boards until they are three weeks from release. Box Office Pro often makes adjustments to initial projections like this, but those adjustments usually trend upward.

Captain Marvel had the third-best first day in Fandango ticket presales in Marvel Studios history. It doesn’t need an opening as high as this projection to be a massive success. Carol Danvers is going to open (at least) over $100M domestically and then we’ll see her go higher, further, and faster from there.

Captain Marvel is in theaters March 8 and you can order your tickets here!
