Marvel Studios has hired Black Widow and Captain Marvel screenwriter Jac Schaeffer as the executive producer and showrunner for Vision and Scarlet Witch. Schaeffer will also write the first episode of the limited series, which will be available exclusively on Disney+.
Schaeffer has obviously made a strong impression on Marvel Studios through her work on Black Widow and Captain Marvel. The latter is in theaters this March and is off to one of the fastest starts for ticket presales in Marvel history.
Black Widow is being directed by Cate Shortland and will start production this spring. That film has not been officially announced, but it will be in theaters May 1, 2020.
When we first heard about Marvel Studios producing limited series for Disney+, Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) was among the projects reportedly in development. Then we learned Vision (Paul Bettany) would possibly co-star in the series.
Now, it’s all but confirmed that the series will be co-headlined. The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which refers to the show as The Vision and Scarlet Witch and Vision and Scarlet Witch. We should have the official title once the project is officially announced.
The only Disney+ series that has been confirmed by Disney and Marvel is Loki, starring Tom Hiddleston. In addition to Vision and Scarlet Witch, a series based on Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) is in development with Malcolm Spellman (Empire) attached to write.
Marvel Studios has been saving announcements for future projects until after Avengers: Endgame. We could see additional limited series confirmed before then, however, as Disney is planning to show off Disney+ and make announcements during an investor day in April.
