Dave Bautista may not be sure if he wants to work for Disney, but he wants a Drax movie anyway. The most vocal critic of Disney’s decision to fire James Gunn believes there’s plenty more of the Destroyer’s story to tell.
“You know I really wish they would tell more of the story of Drax’s family,” Bautista tells MTV International. “I think it’s a beautiful story and I think it’s been lost and overlooked a little bit. It’s a beautiful and heartbreaking emotional thing to know where that love for his family, that heartbreak over his family being lost and murdered, where it comes from. I really wish they would touch upon that more and I think the fans would like to see that more.”
Bautista continued, “Which is really why I really pushed and fought for a Drax standalone film. I don’t think it’s ever going to happen, but I really wish they would because I think there’s a story to be told there and I think the fans would really love to see that story, even if it’s not me portraying Drax, I just still think it is an interesting story to tell.”
I would be excited to see a Drax standalone movie, but I would also want Bautista to be a part of it. That said, Bautista is probably right in that the chances of a Drax solo movie are slim for the foreseeable future.
Marvel Studios is sure to have many other projects that are head of Drax in the developmental line. That line will get even longer once the Disney-Fox deal closes and Marvel Studios picks up the rights to many more characters.
