Summer movie season is behind us and while there are still blockbusters heading our way through the end of the year, it’s also time to start hearing about the 2019 crop. Captain Marvel is nearing the launch of its marketing campaign and we should see a trailer this month or next, at the latest.
Until then, we’ll happily read a few new details on the film from star Brie Larson and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.
“There are definitely homages to our favorite ’90s action films,” Feige tells Total Film. He highlights Terminator 2: Judgment Day as a specific source of inspiration for “Those cool street-level fights and car chases.” We can expect grounded and cosmic action sequences in Captain Marvel. “Much of the movie takes place in outer space,” Feige confirms.
Larson is very excited for audiences to see what Carol Danvers can do. “She’s so, so strong,” says Larson. “She can move planets!” Good luck with that, Thanos.
Captain Marvel needs to be strong in order to shoulder the burden of high expectations. “I’m proud of what it is we’re making. All of the hype will be worth it,” assures Larson and there’s no reason to doubt her.
Captain Marvel is in theaters March 8, 2019.
