The cast of Guardians of the Galaxy are standing by James Gunn. Ten days after he was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the cast has come together with a joint statement in support of the writer-director. They are calling for Gunn to be reinstated by Disney.

The open letter was signed by Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel. The cast members have been sharing the letter on their social media accounts, as you can see below from the Instagram posts by Pratt and Saldana.

It will be interesting to see how Disney responds. The Guardians of the Galaxy actors have not threatened to boycott the third film in the franchise (as some fans feared and others hoped), but this presents Disney with a unique opportunity. Clearly, there is a lot of support behind James Gunn and it seems unlikely Disney would face much of a backlash if they were to rehire him. To the contrary, most people would be in favor of that decision.

Disney has an opportunity to recognize the change in James Gunn since he wrote all of those offensive tweets several years ago. Clearly, the Guardians of the Galaxy cast has seen the better person that Gunn has become since then. Redemption is one of the key themes in not only the GotG franchise, but has also been at the center of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since it began with Iron Man ten years ago.

Regardless of what Disney decides to do, it is great to see Gunn being supported by his cast.
