Captain Marvel represents a lot of firsts for Marvel Studios. It is the studio’s first film led entirely by a female hero (Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne co-headlines Ant-Man and the Wasp next month). Anna Boden, who is directing the film alongside Ryan Fleck, is the first female director for the studio. Now, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has its first female composer in Pinar Toprak, who will score Captain Marvel.

Toprak shared the news on her Instagram.

Toprak recently composed the score for this year’s Krypton series on Syfy. She also wrote music for the Fortnite video game, which Thanos recently cameoed in, among many other film, television, and gaming projects. She has also worked in the superhero genre, composing additional music for Justice League last year.

Toprak is a star on the rise and Captain Marvel will be better for having her. Marvel Studios is in arguably way behind on having proper representation and inclusion across the many prominent positions within the studio’s film projects, but things are changing. Black Panther was part of that change and its great to see that momentum carrying forward in Captain Marvel.

I can’t wait to here the signature sound Pinar Toprak will create for Carol Danvers (Brie Larson)!
