Marvel Studios has reached another milestone in what is already their best year ever. The studio has now earned over $3 billion at the worldwide box office in 2018. All of that money was hauled in by just two films, Black Panther ($1.34B) and Avengers: Infinity War ($1.69B).
Marvel Studios’ current 2018 total of $3.03B is a personal best that just keeps getting better by the day. The studio’s previous record for box office revenue in a single year was $2.6B in 2017. That record was set by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming (distributed by Sony Pictures), and Thor: Ragnarok.
Black Panther is winding down, but still adding to its total despite being available on home release for over a week. Avengers: Infinity War could be adding over $300M to its total before all is said and done. If Ant-Man and the Wasp can get a big enough bump after Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) appearance in Captain America: Civil War, Marvel Studios could top $4B for the year.
Parent company Disney has to be ecstatic about Marvel Studios’ performance, especially this year. Disney is distributing all three of Marvel Studios’ movies this year and therefore pocketing all the cash.
