That which was inevitable has happened. Avengers: Infinity War has indeed broken the $1 billion barrier in just 11 days. That’s faster than any other film in history, besting the mark set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens (12 days) in 2015.

As of Friday morning, the film was on pace to hit $1 billion either last night or sometime today. Either result was going to be a record and it was just a matter of whether Star Wars‘ record would be broken by one day or two.

Infinity War‘s record pace is even more impressive when you remember the film still hasn’t opened in China, where The Force Awakens received the same release date as its domestic launch. Infinity War hits theaters in China next week.

Avengers: Infinity War is the 34th film to reach $1B worldwide and the sixth from Marvel Studios. Distributor The Walt Disney Studios now claims half of all billion-dollar-earners.
