Avengers: Infinity War will likely wind up with the record for the best domestic opening weekend and it is already assured the record for the highest global debut. Infinity War hauled in $640.8M worldwide in its first weekend, shattering the previous mark set by The Fate of the Furious ($541.9M).
What’s even more impressive is that the world’s second largest movie market, China, isn’t even part of that total. Infinity War does not open in the Middle Kingdom until May 11.
This is an astonishing start for Marvel Studios’ 19th film. Avengers: Infinity War has a very real shot at passing 2012’s The Avengers ($1.52B) as the highest-grossing superhero film of all time.
