It has been almost six years since we last saw Clark Gregg in a Marvel Studios movie. His character, Phil Coulson, “died” in The Avengers before being resurrected on television. Since leading Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., however, Gregg has not returned to the movie side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That changes next year with Captain Marvel, but Gregg is back on a Marvel Studios set for production today. Gregg shared a photo from his first day on the film earlier this evening.

New job, old friends. #captainmarvel

It is so wonderful that we will get to see Agent Coulson once more as the MCU culminates with Avengers: Infinity War this year and Avengers 4 next year. This was made possible by Captain Marvel being set in the 1990s, long before Coulson’s cinematic demise.

Marvel Studios is taking advantage of this opportunity for one (final?) tribute to a character who served as a connective thread between the franchises introduced in Phase One of the MCU.
