The only movies Avengers: Infinity War could not beat was itself, and It. The latest trailer, released last Friday, was viewed 179 million times in its first 24 hours. That is the third best debut for any trailer.

The all-time record of 230 million views was set by the first Avengers: Infinity War trailer last November. The first trailer for It remains in second place with 197 million views.

The drop in first day trailer views should not be mistaken for any reduction in audience interest. Second trailers often have fewer views in their initial 24 hours compared to first trailers. There is much more urgency in the audience’s curiosity for first trailers since they’ve not seen anything from the film yet.

Moviegoers spent more time buying tickets than re-watching the latest trailer, as Avengers: Infinity War set a new, all-time record for total advanced ticket sales by a superhero movie in just six hours.
