Captain Marvel has already done some principal photography, but production is about to be in full swing. Samuel L. Jackson will be reprising the role of Nick Fury in the film. Since it’s set in the 1990s, however, this will be a younger, two-eyed version of the character.
Jackson shared a few photos today as a lifecast was being made of his head, and this points to a couple key aspects to consider for Fury in Captain Marvel.
Lifecasts can be created for a number of reasons, but I don’t think Marvel Studios needs this for a new eyepatch fitting. Instead, this lifecast may help with some visual effects that could be seen on Fury during the film.
First, the VFX team will be turning back time on Jackson, just as they’ve done with Michael Douglas, Robert Downey, Jr., and Kurt Russell. They are probably going to remove years’ worth of aging to make sure Fury looks much younger than when we first met him in Iron Man in 2008.
Second, and this is not guaranteed to happen, but with the Skrulls around, could this lifecast help the VFX team with a shapeshifting Fury impostor? I think there’s a chance.
Captain Marvel is due in theaters March 8, 2019.
