Marvel Studios has added Gemma Chan (Humans) to the cast of Captain Marvel. Chan will be playing the role of Minn-Erva in the film, which stars Brie Larson in the title role.
In the comics, Minn-Erva, also known as Doctor Minerva, is a member of the Kree. That is the same alien race as Ronan (Lee Pace) from Guardians of the Galaxy and Mar-Vell (Jude Law) from Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers’ (Larson) powers are Kree in nature.
Minn-Erva’s first task in Marvel Comics was to journey to Earth and try to conceive a child with Mar-Vell in order to advance the Kree genetic code. The Kree are all about making themselves the universe’s strongest, most genetically-gifted species.
Something tells me Minn-Erva will have a greater ambition in the Marvel Cinematic Universe than mating with Mar-Vell, but her status as a both a Kree scientist and spy afford her several possibilities in a film that will also incorporate elements of the Kree-Skrull War.
Chan confirmed the news via Twitter.
