Black Panther is every bit as big as Hollywood thought it would be at the box office. Including the $25.2M from Thursday night screenings, the new Marvel Studios film is on pace for a $72M Friday in North America. That points Black Panther toward a three-day total of $175M and a four-day gross between $200M and $205M.
Should those numbers hold, Black Panther will have the fourth best three-day opening in Marvel Studios history. It would trail only The Avengers ($207.4M), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.3), and Captain America: Civil War ($179.1M).
All three of those movies feature massive team-ups of Avengers, so Black Panther could end up with the highest opening of any true solo superhero film, ahead of Iron Man 3 ($174.1M).
The word-of-mouth has been overwhelmingly positive thus far, which means we could see the estimates adjusted upward again and again as the weekend continues. We will bring you every update right here on Marvel Studios News.
