Black Panther is in theaters tonight, but it still has one more pre-sale milestone left. The 18th Marvel Studios film now has the fourth highest advanced ticket sales of any film in Fandango history. It only trails the three most recent Star Wars films.
This means Black Panther now officially has the highest pre-sales of any first quarter release. It already had the record for the best pre-sales of any superhero movie.
Box office tracking puts Black Panther at $165M over its 4-day opening weekend, including President’s Day on Monday. Rival studios believe the Disney-distributed film could reach $200M in that time period.
No matter what the final numbers may be, we are looking at a phenomenal opening and easily the best ever for the debut film in a standalone Marvel Studios franchise. It could even be the highest opening of any first film in a standalone superhero franchise.
BREAKING: #BlackPanther is now among Fandango's top 5 presellers of all time. It is now officially the top superhero preseller, as well as the top February preseller and first quarter preseller. It is a historic force, and for those seeing it tonight.. enjoy! pic.twitter.com/EwS786qX8Y
