Black Panther has enjoyed an impressive run of pre-sale records, but now it’s time to see actual box office numbers. All of the tracking appears to have been correct. The 18th Marvel Studios film is on pace for $25M on Thursday night.

The final Thursday night numbers will be in tomorrow morning. As of now, Black Panther could surpass Captain America: Civil War ($25M) for the second highest opening night for Marvel Studios.

Black Panther is also within striking distance of Marvel’s best opening night ever with Avengers: Age of Ultron ($27.6M). The Ryan Coogler-directed film is performing exactly as it needs to tonight in order to have a chance at an opening weekend in the $180M-$200M range.

As of this writing, Black Panther still has a 98% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. If audiences love it just as much as critics, the film should be able to maintain this incredible pace.

For what it’s worth, the crowd at the first showing at the TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX absolutely loved it tonight.

We will be providing Black Panther box office updates all weekend long, so stay tuned to Marvel Studios News!
