Thor needs a new weapon in Avengers: Infinity War. His trusty hammer, Mjolnir, was shattered by Hela (Cate Blanchett) in the first act of Thor: Ragnarok. He made it through the rest of the film, just fine without it, but Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will need all the weaponry he can get his hands on to fight Thanos (Josh Brolin).
Early Avengers: Infinity War concept showed Thor having something that looked like his classic pre-Mjolnir weapon in the source material, an axe named Jarnbjorn. A new photo of a Hasbro toy, however, shows that Thor’s new weapon for Infinity War is instead the Ultimate Thor version of Mjolnir from Marvel Comics and has a name that pays homage to another character.
The one side hammer, one side axe design is totally Ultimate Thor. The name Stormbreaker is a reference to Beta Ray Bill, a character whose only presence in the MCU was to have a giant statue of his head on the same building where The Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) housed and was paying similar tribute to Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) in Ragnarok.
In the comics, Stormbreaker is the name of the hammer Odin makes for Beta Ray Bill when he proves himself to be just as worthy as Thor.
