Superhero movies tend to pop up on a lot of magazine covers. We expect to see them on Empire, Entertainment Weekly, and the other usual suspects. We do not often see them on the cover of Time, however, where you will currently find Chadwick Boseman for Black Panther.
Marvel Studios’ 18th feature film is Time‘s latest cover story, written by Jamil Smith. The article dives deep into the cultural significance of Black Panther as the first film of its scale to be directed by a black man, Ryan Coogler, and star a predominantly black cast. It is the biggest, boldest example of representation in Hollywood blockbusters at a time when it is needed most.
This article is worth your time and attention. It does not have any major spoilers, so you should have little trouble reading it before seeing the film. If, however, you don’t want to know anything at all about Black Panther beyond the trailers and TV spots, make sure you bookmark the article and come back to it after seeing the film.
Black Panther is in theaters February 16.
