Director Ryan Coogler knocked it out of the park with Black Panther. Critics may not be able to post reviews until next week, but they’re social media reactions give us a pretty good idea of the reception we can expect. All the film’s success breeds curiosity as to what comes next.

The next time Coogler directs a Marvel movie, assuming he wants to, there will be more characters available to him than ever before. Disney’s purchase of Fox’s movie studio (among other assets) will eventually bring X-Men characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That includes Storm, a character that was once married to T’Challa/Black Panther in the source material.

Speaking to ComicBook at the Black Panther press junket, Coogler couldn’t speak to any specific details regarding the Disney-Fox deal, but he believes they will all be under the right leadership.

“To be honest with you, I don’t know enough about that acquisition to even talk about it, man. I’m like caught up there while we were trying to finish the movie. So, I think, look — if it’s something that goes through, I can’t think of better hands for those characters to be in than Kevin [Feige]’s. I’ll say that.”

It remains to early to expect Coogler, Feige, or anyone else associated with Marvel Studios to have any answers regarding the Disney-Fox deal. Coogler is right, though, in that it’s hard to imagine anyone more capable of overseeing the inclusion of so many new characters in the MCU than Feige.
