Marvel Studios received one Oscar® nomination this year. The studio was once again recognized in the Best Visual Effects category, this time for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. There are, however, more nominations worth celebrating by Marvel fans, as several MCU alumni were nominated for their work on other films.

Daniel Kaluuya was nominated for Best Actor for his performance in Get Out. Kaluuya will debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe next month when he plays the role of W’Kabi in Black Panther. W’Kabi leads Wakanda’s Border Tribe. He is the head of security for his country and the best friend of T’Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman).

Sam Rockwell received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Rockwell remains arguably the most beloved part of Iron Man 2 for his portrayal of Justin Hammer. When last we saw, Hammer was still in prison in the Marvel One-Shot, All Hail the King. I’m not counting on a return to the MCU for Sam Rockwell, but I’ll still hope for it.

Amy Pascal, who produced Spider-Man: Homecoming with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, produced The Post and is therefore listed on the film’s Best Picture nomination. Pascal will also produce the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel with Feige and Marvel Studios.
