Marvel Studios is finally ready to get moving on a Black Widow movie. News broke this week about the studio hiring Jac Schaeffer to pen the script and soon the scribe will be meeting with her star. Variety‘s Justin Kroll is hearing that Scarlett Johansson and Schaeffer will likely meet in early February and, “talk about the film and how they see it going.”

Johansson did meet with president Kevin Feige and other Marvel Studios executives to establish ideas for the film before Feige began meeting with writers. Based on Marvel’s usual hiring practices, Schaeffer must have made a pitch that not only matched, but improved upon that vision. The meeting will undoubtedly give Johansson a chance to share some insight and perhaps have a little input before Schaeffer completes her first draft of the script.

We are still a ways off from Black Widow getting the green light that says this movie is definitely happening, but this is the most momentum the project has ever had. Hopefully the film can continue advancing through these developmental stages and be ready for production in 2019, or 2020 at the latest.
