Today is a special day in the hearts of comic book fans all over the world, as it is the 100th birthday of Jack “King” Kirby. Evangeline Lilly marked the occasion by sharing an in-costume photo of her titular character in Ant-Man and the Wasp. We saw the Wasp costume in 2015’s Ant-Man, but this is the first official image of Lilly wearing it.
Kirby, who passed away in 1994, co-created the Wasp and many other characters with fellow Marvel legend Stan Lee. Many of the people who’ve worked with Kirby’s co-creations, which also include Hulk and Captain America, have taken the time to honor “The King” today.

Kudos to Evangeline Lilly for paying tribute in such a cool, exciting way. This is sure to bring a lot of extra attention to the legacy of a man who is responsible for so much of what fans have come to enjoy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There simply couldn’t be one without the work of King Kirby.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is in theaters July 6, 2018.
