Fun isn’t something Thanos considers when balancing the universe, but Josh Brolin has had a smile on his face while playing The Mad Titan in Avengers: Infinity War this year. The actor couldn’t be tricked into spilling any details from the Avengers movie, but he was willing to tell Entertainment Weekly about his experience playing Thanos via performance capture.
“I love doing Avengers, it’s maybe the most fun I’ve ever had. I just saw a little snippet of it, and it was amazing. The cutting-edge technology of what they’re doing — what I’ve seen is absolutely mind-blowing. When I saw it on screen, it was me, but also not like me. It’s really strange.”
Brolin has been having a lot of fun this year, as he went from playing Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War to playing Cable in Deadpool 2. Brolin has already said that he’ll be going back for more work as Thanos, likely for Untitled Avengers, later this year. Forgive me, but that’s a pretty marvelous schedule.
Performance capture technology is improving by the minute, as we’ve seen in the Planet of the Apes franchise and the upgrade for Thanos from Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014 to the early footage from Avengers: Infinity War that was screened at D23 Expo and San Diego Comic Con last month.
Avengers: Infinity War is in theaters May 4, 2018. Untitled Avengers will follow on May 3, 2019.
