Marvel Studios has reportedly found a director, or two of them actually, for Captain Marvel. According to Variety Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are set to direct the film, which will star Brie Larson in the title role.
Marvel has not commented or confirmed the news, but it appears the studio’s long, thorough search for a director has reached its conclusion. Boden and Fleck, who directed 2015’s Mississippi Grind, reportedly impress Marvel Studios again and again over the course of several meetings.
Boden and Fleck will be the second directing duo Marvel Studios has hired. The first one, Joe and Anthony Russo, worked out pretty well. Studio boss Kevin Feige has made a wonderful habit of identifying filmmakers who can tell great stories while Marvel provides the support needed to tell those stories in big superhero blockbusters.
Marvel Studios might have been trying to wait on this announcement until D23 EXPO or San Diego Comic-Con, but if the cat really is already out of the bag, then the official announcement should follow soon.
Update: Brie Larson has retweeted the Variety link, so that pretty much confirms it.
Captain Marvel is written by Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve and is set for a March 8, 2019 release.
