Daniel Kaluuya is having as good of a year as any actor in 2017. The star of the smash hit Get Out will look to carry that momentum into 2018 and he should be able to with another surefire hit lined up in Marvel’s Black Panther. Kaluuya has a lot of confidence in the project, comparing the film to a hit HBO series in a recent interview in GQ.

This is an African blockbuster, bruv. This is like Game of Thrones. This is crazy. And Ryan Coogler is just, man dem. He’s like us! He’s a normal dude, in a Golden State hat and a Tupac T-shirt directing the whole set. It’s the most beautiful thing to see.

Kaluuya is playing W’Kabi in Black Panther. In the comics, the character is a Wakandan security chief. Marvel described the role as a friend and confidant of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) when the casting of Kaluuya was announced.

The Game of Thrones comparison certainly fits in the fictional nation of Wakanda where T’Challa is likely to have challengers to his status as the new king. Here is the synopsis for Black Panther from Marvel Studios.

“Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.

Black Panther is due in theaters February 16, 2018.
