Stan Lee is certainly the most frequent flyer, but he is not the only Marvel creator to make a cameo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A number of creators have made their way to a Marvel Studios set over the years and now it appears one more will be added to the list. Thanos creator Jim Starlin will likely cameo in Avengers: Infinity War.
After spotting a copy of his story, The Infinity Gauntlet, in the Avengers: Infinity War hype video last Friday, Starlin took to Facebook to let the filmmakers know he was ready for his close up. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo responded and are happy to oblige.
This is will not be the first time The Russos Brothers shoot a cameo for a comic creator other than Stan Lee. Ed Brubaker, who’s Captain America comic book run was a huge inspiration for the Russos’ Captain America: The Winter Soldier, got a cameo in that film. Marvel Studios also had J. Michael Straczynski cameo in Thor, as the film leaned on many aspects of Straczynski’s run in the comics (Straczynski also has a story credit for the film).
Given that Starlin created the big, bad star of the film, Thanos, and wrote The Infinity Gauntlet comic book event on which much of Avengers: Infinity War is based, he certainly deserves a cameo. It sounds like it’s going to happen, so hopefully there are no scheduling issues that get in the way. Meanwhile, we’ll be keeping an eye out to see if Starlin pops up in Atlanta, where Avengers: Infinity War is currently in production, over the next several months.
Avengers: Infinity War is due in theaters May 4, 2018.
