Peter Dinklage might be heading to his second Marvel universe. The Game of Thrones star is in early talks with Marvel Studios for a role in Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled fourth Avengers movie. There is no word yet on what role Dinklage might play.

This would be the second Marvel role for Dinklage, but first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Dinklage was previously part of Fox’s Marvel movie-verse, having played Bolivar Trask in 2014’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

According to Variety, a shift in the Game of Thrones shooting schedule has left Dinklage available for Marvel’s next two Avengers movies. Variety reports the movies are being filmed back-to-back, but directors Joe and Anthony Russo have previously said that the movies are being filmed concurrently, as in a scene from Avengers: Infinity War being filmed one day and potentially a scene from the fourth Avengers being filmed later that same day, or the next.

Variety also mentions Avengers: Infinity War filming in early summer, but production Marvel has previously mentioned plans to start rolling cameras this month or next. Perhaps Variety‘s report is specific to when Dinklage would be needed on set to film his part.

Your guess is as good as mine as to which character Dinklage will play. I’m sure MODOK is going to be a popular guess, but that’s a villain that could just as easily get his own turn as a lead-villain instead of playing second fiddle to Infinity War‘s top baddie—Thanos (Josh Brolin).

It’s probably too soon to just assume Dinklage will be an antagonist, but with all of The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy set to appear in the films, there seems to be a surplus of heroes and a shortage of people for them to fight. And that leads me to my own theory of which role Dinklage could be eyed for.

I believe that the Black Order are going to be in one or both of the next two Avengers movies (as I wrote on Modern Myth Media over a year ago). The Black Order, introduced in Jonathan Hickman’s Infinity storyline a few years ago, are essentially generals for Thanos and his army. There are two members of the Black order that Dinklage would be a great fit for, one of which is kind of perfect if you’ve been watching Dinklage on Game of Thrones.

The Ebony Maw may not look like much, but his mind makes him as dangerous as any of his pals. His powers are those of suggestion, using his black tongue to say just the right the thing to make a hero do the wrong thing. He took over Doctor Strange’s mind in Infinity to use the Sorcerer Supreme’s mystic powers to get a location on Thanos’ son, Thane. It’s not hard at all to picture Dinklage taking Tyrion Lannister’s own powers of persuasion from Game of Thrones and amplifying them in the MCU.

Corvus Glaive is highest ranking member of the Black Order. When Thanos isn’t around to give orders, Glaive is in charge. He has the power to regenerate, making him very difficult to kill. He wields a savage blade affixed to a staff that will keep him alive so long as the blade remains intact. Corvus Glaive is cunning and merciless. There’s no doubt that Dinklage could be the right hand man of Brolin’s Thanos and a leader of The Mad Titan’s armies.

All that said, I don’t want to dismiss the possibility of MODOK being the role for Dinklage. He’d be great as the Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing. Also, Dinklage could be MODOK and part of the Black Order if the MCU roster of Thanos’ general differs from the version in the comics, which can easily be the case.

Now that I’ve laid these theories out, I’ve probably guaranteed that they won’t happen. It would be awesome enough to have Peter Dinklage in the MCU regardless of the role. Still, because I’ve removed a few possibilities by acknowledging them, we need more suggestions in the comments section!
