Thor: Ragnarok is in its last day of production and during a Facebook live video, director Taika Waititi dropped a familiar character name. While walking buy an actor named Steve (no last name given), Waititi said the actor was playing Miek in the film. That name should bring back memories for those who’ve read Planet Hulk.

In the comics, Miek is part of an insectoid race on the planet Sakaar—yep, the place where Ronan (Lee Pace) got his army in Guardians of the Galaxy. Miek was a friend and eventual member of the Hulk’s Warbound in the Planet Hulk storyline after first meeting the Green Goliath in the arena. That friendship eventually deteriorates, but you’ll need to read World War Hulk for more on that.

Though much of Thor: Ragnarok has been influenced by Walt Simonson’s legendary run in The Mighty Thor comics, some of Planet Hulk has also been adapted. That begins, most obviously, with the inclusion of the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) in the film and an arena shown via concept art at Comic-Con depicting an Avengers rematch between Hulk and Thor (Chris Hemsworth).

Miek is going to appear in Thor: Ragnarok, but based on the look of our new friend Steve and his costume (you can see him 10:55 into the video), it does not look like his insectoid heritage will carry over from the comics. Perhaps Steve just wasn’t in makeup or something will be added in postproduction, but for now, it appears the name Miek is a simple nod to the storyline from which he came.

Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok is due in theaters November 3, 2017.
