Marvel has announced three new cast members for The Punisher. They join star Jon Bernthal for the Netflix original series, which is already in production.
Marvel also announced the characters the new cast members will play and provided descriptions for each.
Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia) joins the cast as Billy Russo, Frank Castle’s best friend from his days in the Special Forces. He runs a successful private military corporation called “Anvil.”’
Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Girls) will play Micro, a former NSA analyst whose secrets may be of great value to Frank Castle and everyone around them.
And Amber Rose Revah (Indian Summers, Son of God) joins as Dinah Madani, a highly-trained sophisticated Homeland Security agent who is vexed by the Punisher.
The name Micro (short for Microchip) should sound very familiar to Punisher fans, as that’s the guy who’s spent a lot of years supplying Frank Castle with weapons and tech.
The name Billy Russo should sound just as familiar, though you might know the character by his other name, Jigsaw. Making Russo a best friend of Castle’s from their military days is a new backstory that could upset some fans. Over the course of 13 episodes, however, I expect Russo will make the turn and become Frank’s archenemy, just as he is in the comics.
Netflix has not announced a premiere date for The Punisher, but Marvel did mention it will be streaming in 2017 in today’s announcement.
