Marvel Studios is once again offering its academically-inclined fans a chance at an internship! Girls ages 15 – 18 in grades 10 -12 have the opportunity to submit their ideas for STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) projects with five finalists earning a trip to the Doctor Strange red carpet premiere. The winner of the Doctor Strange – The Magic of STEM Challenge will receive an internship with The Walt Disney Studios Digital Team.
Rachel McAdams, who plays Christine Palmer in Doctor Strange, announced the contest in the video above. For full details, see the contest’s official website, or review the press release below from Marvel.
Disney, Marvel Studios, Dolby, Synchrony Bank, Broadcom MASTERS and the Society for Science and the Public are pleased to present the nationwide MARVEL STUDIOS’ DOCTOR STRANGE–THE MAGIC OF STEM CHALLENGE in conjunction with the November 4, 2016, theatrical release of Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, with Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton.
Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange” follows the story of world-famous neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange who, in his quest for healing after a horrific car accident, discovers powerful magic in a mysterious place known as Kamar-Taj—the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality. Marvel Studios, building on the success of Captain America: Civil War–Girls Reforming the Future, the Ant-Man Micro-Tech Challenge, and the Ultimate Mentor Adventure, continues to encourage young girls to discover the magic of science and technology with MARVEL STUDIOS’ DOCTOR STRANGE–THE MAGIC OF STEM CHALLENGE.
This program, supported by Broadcom MASTERS and Society for Science and the Public, seeks to inspire young girls to work with a mentor to explore the wonders of science and technology and, in turn, to teach and inspire others. One exceptional young woman will be selected to be mentored by members of the Walt Disney Company’s Digital Team and will learn how to create her own science vlog, an episode of which will be shown on a Walt Disney Company media platform. The challenge invites girls nationwide, ages 15 – 18, in grades 10 -12, to think of their favorite, or most vexing, scientific or technological question and then to find a mentor who will help them explore the secrets and mysteries behind their question. Each applicant will be asked to submit a short, science vlog-style video, which shares with others what she learned from her mentor.
Five finalists will be selected to come to attend the World Premiere of Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange. Each finalist will receive: Two round-trip tickets to Southern California for the finalist and her parent or guardian, including scheduled meals, ground transportation to and from organized activities, hotel accommodations, from October 19 through October 21, 2016; the opportunity to be on the red carpet at the World Premiere of Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange; a $1,000 deposited into a high-yield savings account from Synchrony Bank; a tour of the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California; and more.
One grand-prize winner will be selected from the five finalists to be mentored by The Walt Disney
Studios Digital Team and learn how to produce their very own science vlog episode, from story development through production and presentation. The winner’s vlog episode will be shown via a Walt Disney Company media platform.
Complete contest information will be available from September 19, 2016, through October 5, 2016.
