Chris Pratt is very confident in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The man who will reprise his role as Peter Quill/Star-Lord was at the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of his new film, The Magnificent Seven. Pratt was not going to spoil any details from the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, but he was able to share his confidence in the film with the Toronto Sun.

“I can say Guardians 2 is going to be out May 5. It’s finished and it’s going to be terrific. I’m already so proud of it. We worked really hard on it and it’s a joy to be part of. It’s a fabulous script. I think it’s going to be — I’m not using hyperbole, here – I think it’s going to be the biggest spectacle movie of all time.”

Chris Pratt is not the first and will not be the last actor to shower praise upon his own film before it’s come out, but that does not make his comments insincere or incorrect. Pratt and director James Gunn have each expressed a lot of confidence in GotG Vol. 2 since production wrapped in Atlanta a few months ago.

Based on what I saw of the film at Comic-Con several weeks ago and how all of the 6,500 fans in attendance reacted, Pratt and Gunn should feel really good about it. Guardians of the Galaxy took the world by storm two years ago with a spectacular space opera fueled by irreverent humor and massive quantities of heart. It was and is something unique, which Pratt loves.

“I’m fortunate. I’m fortunate in so many ways. I couldn’t count the ways, even if I tried. To be part of Guardians of the Galaxy is to be part of a franchise that really is so totally different. It’s new and exciting and unlike anything people had seen before. There are a lot of superheroes out there, but I think we do something a little different. The genesis of these characters was in the Marvel Universe but we do something a little different, more cosmic, with Guardians of the Galaxy.”

Fans and, as we can see, the filmmakers have very high expectations for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Based on the overwhelming success of the first movie, it couldn’t have gone any other way. Those expectations are sure to be elevated once more people see footage from the film when the trailer is released sometime between now and Christmas (I’m betting on October).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be in theaters May 5, 2017.
