Captain America: Civil War is just a few days away from being released in Digital HD on September 2. USA Today has shared one of the deleted scenes that will be included with the in-home release. Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) meets with T’Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) after the latter was apprehended for trying to take it upon himself to serve justice to Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan).
I completely understand why this scene did not make the final cut of the film, as it’s not necessary to make the main plot work, but I love the interaction between these two characters. Romanoff thinks she has a better understanding of the situation with T’Challa being in violation of the Sokovia Accords. She believes that the King of Wakanda is naive and doesn’t know the game he’s playing, only to find out she is the one with something to learn.
I love what this says about Wakanda in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That Wakanda is a barely known entity to The Avengers and much of the world does not make the country weak in matters of diplomacy. Instead, the truth is that those who do not know Wakanda had better start learning, as the fictional African nation is a silent, but experienced diplomatic player and knows how to get what it wants.
Captain America: Civil War will also be available on Blu-ray September 13.
