It’s been a big day for Marvel Studios and it actually began with the news that directors Joe and Anthony Russo will be shooting AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR PART – 1 and 2 entirely with the new IMAX/ARRI 2D digital camera. This will be the first time a Hollywood feature film will have been shot in its entirety with IMAX cameras.
The next-generation camera will provide the highest quality image capture, optimized for playback on IMAX’s latest and greatest laser projection systems. For the Russos, that’s precisely what an event as massive as INFINITY WAR deserves.
“The intent with the Infinity War films is to bring 10years of accumulative storytelling to an incredible climax. We felt that the best way to exploit the scale and scope required to close out the final chapter of these three phases, was to be the first films shot entirely on the IMAX/Arri Digital camera.”
Audiences will get their first look at what this new camera can do during select action sequences in Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, which is now in production. For more, you can see Marvel’s complete announcement here.
In other news, Marvel also confirmed Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely will write both parts of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. The scripting duo will once again team with the directing duo of the Russo brothers, all of whom are making CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR right now after turning in last year’s fantastic CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. Markus and McFeely also wrote CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. Together, the Russos, Markus, and McFeely are a proven commodity and it’s not hard to see why Marvel would entrust them with the climax of an 11-year era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel’s AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART 1 will arrive May 4, 2018 with PART 2 following on May 3, 2019.
