Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have composed a shortlist of contenders for the role of Spider-Man. The character will soon be seen, we think, in MARVEL’S CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and, we know, Sony’ next solo film in the SPIDER-MAN franchise. Nat Wolff (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS), Asa Butterfield (ENDER’S GAME), Tom Holland (THE IMPOSSIBLE), Timothee Chalamet (INTERSTELLAR), and Liam James (THE WAY WAY BACK) may be among the actors set to receive test offers.
Neither studio has commented on the list, nor will they, as the only thing we’ll hear in an official announcement is, obviously, who ultimately wins the role. The studios apparently have until June to make a decision, as that is when Spider-Man will reportedly be needed on set of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, though the film actually begins shooting in the next couple weeks.
Meanwhile, Drew Goddard, series creator and executive producer on MARVEL’S DAREDEVIL, is widely considered the frontrunner to write and direct the SPIDER-MAN solo film.
What do you think? Do you get a Spidey-Sense from any of these actors? If not, whom do you hope is also on the shortlist? Tell us in the comments section!
