Originally reported last week, Marvel has now confirmed the hiring of Nicole Perlman (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY) and Meg LeFauve (INSIDE OUT) to write CAPTAIN MARVEL. Marvel Studios’ first female-led film, CAPTAIN MARVEL will showcase the adventures of Carol Danvers, a skilled Air Force pilot-turned superhero after gaining a number of powers including super strength and flight.
Perlman, as much as any individual, can be credited with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY making it to the big screen in 2014. She developed the first treatment and script for Marvel, which the studio then took to co-writer/director James Gunn. Without the foundation built by Perlman, Marvel would have been looking at other projects for Gunn to direct. Perlman will no doubt help worldwide audiences get to know Carol Danvers, much in the way she helped introduce them to Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot.
Most of the world has yet to see Disney/Pixar’s INSIDE OUT, which will be released on June 19, but early buzz is very strong and being under the same Disney umbrella has given Marvel the inside track on knowing LeFauve’s contribution and getting her involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It all starts with the script and Marvel Studios has done itself a big favor in that department with these hires.
CAPTAIN MARVEL will be released on November 2, 2018.
