Director James Gunn has been kind enough to share a brand new image from GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. In this week’s Entertainment Weekly, Gunn shed some additional light on the film. GOTG will be connected to AVENGERS 3 and feature Thanos via motion capture. Gunn also provided some key background information on heroes Peter “Star-Lord” Quill and Gamora, as well as the villainous Nebula.

[Quill] was abducted from Earth (Missouri) at age 8 and “raised in a group of thieves and smuggles called the Ravagers. He’s good with the ladies and a little bit of a dick and very lucky.”

Thanos slaughtered [Gamora’s] family and Nebula’s, then raised them together as siblings. Says Gunn, “They were bio engineered to become living weapons, so he’s really good at killing people.”

For an additional look at Nebula’s past, check out the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY prelude comic. You’ll see that the bald, blue antagonist has some legitimate beef with Gamora.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY starts hooking people on a feeling on August 1, 2014.

UPDATE: Marvel has released 3 more images from the film.
