We have already seen the testosterone-fueled posters of the male heroes and villains from THOR: THE DARK WORLD and now it is finally time the women got their due. Marvel has released character posters for Lady Sif and Jane Foster (via Pop Sugar), respectively played by Jaimie Alexander and Natalie Portman. Neither of the images are new, but they at least put the film’s female characters at the center of the stage.

Lady Sif looks particularly badass in her poster and hopefully, her presence in this film will loudly bang the drum for a female character to take the lead and the title in a superhero film. Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment do not appear to be giving Wonder Woman her own film in the foreseeable future, though she could still appear in a team up with Batman and Superman. It will be no surprise, however, if Marvel beats them to the punch (again).

Portman already believes Marvel Studios is well on its way to the first movie starring a female superhero in the MCU. Here’s what the actress told SciFiNow:

There are definitely many strong women, but it will be exciting when there is a central female character which I think is coming – I have heard is coming – and, of course, also a central non-white character will also be exciting. Title characters.

If what Portman is hearing is true, the obvious choices in each category are Captain Marvel and Black Panther, the latter of which has been frequently rumored as a possible choice for Phase Three of the MCU. Captain Marvel would be a welcome addition and could surely be sold to a mainstream audience, though Phase Three might be a little too soon and a little too crowded. Perhaps an introduction in the third AVENGERS film (if not in THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON) would set Captain Marvel up for her own picture in Phase Four.
